How soon can I get my license?

To get your license you must complete the Sales Agent course with a minimum grade of 75, which is designed to take about 55 hours and can be taken at your own pace starting on any day. You have one year to complete the course. Upon completion of the Sales Agent course, you need to take the Pearson VUE Maine Real Estate state exam, and pass with a minimum grade of 75, which needs to be taken within one year of completing the Sales Agent course. You then must be affiliated with an agency and can apply to the state for your Sales Agent license. More information can be found on page 2 of the Pearson VUE Candidate Handbook or on the Maine Real Estate Commission website.

To obtain an Associate Broker license, you must complete the steps above, take and pass the Associate Broker course with a 75 or higher, be a Sales Agent for 2 years, and apply through the Maine Real Estate Commission.

To obtain a Broker’s license, you must complete the steps above, take and pass the Broker course with a 75 or higher, be an Associate Broker for a minimum of two years, and apply through the Maine Real Estate Commission.

A Few things to note: A Sales Agent license is not renewable so a Sales Agent must either go on to obtain their Associate Broker’s license or choose to leave Real Estate. A Broker license is optional. A Real Estate professional may choose to operate with an Associate Broker license for their entire career. A Broker license, however, is needed in order to operate as a Designated Broker for an agency.

What are the requirements for a license?

All candidate for a Maine Real Estate license must:

  • Be at least 18-years old at the time of license application
  • Hold a high-school diploma (or the equivalent)
  • Have a reputation for honesty, truthfulness, fair-dealing, and competency

What courses do I need to get my license?

To start your Maine Real Estate Career, you must complete the Sales Agent course then follow the steps to get your license outlined on page 2 of the Pearson VUE Candidate Handbook or on the Maine Real Estate Commission website.

To obtain an Associate Broker license, you must complete the steps above, take and pass the Associate Broker course, be a Sales Agent for 2 years, and apply through the Maine Real Estate Commission. As an Associate Broker, you also must complete 21 hours of Continuing Education credits every 2 years with one of the courses being the current Core Course.

How much does the course cost?

Our Sales Agent course is $370 with a pdf version of the book included. To add a hardcopy of the book, it’s an additional $25 plus tax and shipping.

Our Broker Course is $425 and includes all books and course materials.

What is included in the course?

Our Sales Agent course comes with an online platform, PDF versions of the course materials including the Sales Agent textbook and License Law Reference book,, access to an instructor, and Zoom office hours. Upon competition of the course students will also receive the State Exam Study guide.

Our Broker Course comes with the Broker textbook and License Law Reference book.

Do you offer discounts?

We currently do not offer discounts on our courses but instead work hard to keep our prices as low as possible compared to our competitors.

What happens if I have questions during or after the course?

Each of our courses has a well qualified and helpful instructor available to answer questions by email, phone, or Zoom. We also have support for technology or any course support through [email protected]. We are here to help you succeed and happy to answer question big or small before, during, or after your course. Do I get a certificate or transcript when I finish the course?

You will get a certificate for each of our courses and be sure to hold onto it! For our Sales Agent class the certificate is required to be presented when you attend your Pearson VUE exam. For our Broker course you will need it to apply for your Broker License with the Maine Real Estate Commission.

What is on the Pearson VUE Sales Agent state exam or the Maine Law Exam for Reciprocity?

The Pearson VUE Candidate Handbook has all the topics on the state exam. The General Exam topics which make up 80 of the 120 questions are on pages 15-17 of the pdf document (Content Outlines pages 01 – 03) and the State Law portion of the exam that is 40 questions on the Sales Agent State Exam or 50 questions of the Maine Law Exam for a reciprocal license is on page 18 of the pdf booklet (Content Outlines page 04).

How long is the Pearson VUE Sales Agent State Exam?

All of the exam information can be found in the Pearson VUE Candidate Handbook. The exam is 120 questions and you are given 2.5 hours to complete it. You may take it as many times as you need for a fee of $85 as long as it’s within one year of the completion date of your Sales Agent course.

What is a passing grade for the Pearson VUE Sales Agent State Exam?

You must receive a score of 75 or higher to pass the exam. There is an excerpt from the Pearson VUE Candidate Handbook to explain how the exam is scored on page 8 of the booklet.

How many times can I take the Pearson VUE Sales Agent State Exam?

From the Pearson VUE Candidate Handbook: Sales Agent candidates may retake the Sales Agent Exam multiple times as long as they do so before the expiration date of the Course Completion Certificate. Course Completion Certificates are valid for one year.

Where do I take the Pearson VUE Sales Agent State Exam?

There are multiple testing centers to sign up to take your test. To find the closest location to you, visit Pearson VUE – Find a test center.

Does my Maine license work in other states?

If not, how do I get licensed in other states? When you are licensed to practice Real Estate in Maine your license is only valid in the state of Maine. For more information on how to get licensed in another state you will need to reach out to that state’s Real Estate Commission to find out the licensing process for the state you wish to practice in.

If I’m licensed in another state what do I need to do to get licensed in Maine?

If you have an active license in another state and also wish to be licensed in Maine you must affiliate yourself with a Maine agency, take and pass the Maine Law portion of the Pearson VUE Maine Real Estate State Exam, Furnish Verification of Licensure in good standing from any state where a license is held or has been held, be 18 years of age with a high school degree or equivalent, and complete the license application.
